Ollie The Locksmith from Cheltenham
Hi my names Ollie, I run Ollie’s Lock & Safe Locksmiths Cheltenham.
I thought I would give a short introduction of myself and my business in 2003 after finishing my A-levels I came to a cross roads, I was unsure what i wanted to do as a career but new that university wasn’t really where I wanted to go.
After a few months of being a kitchen fitter for a family friend i decided that the tradesmen industry was for me.I applied for a few companies in the gas engineer industry after a tedious testing and interviewing process I managed to secure a position with British Gas as an apprentice. I started my position 6 months later at their training college in Leeds unfortunately for me it wasn’t to be, i was later tested for colour blindness and it was discovered i had slight colour blindness with red and browns. This left british gas no option but to let me go due to the electrical aspect of things involved in the job.Back to the drawing bored, after a week of unemployment I decided it wasn’t for me and started working for a gas engineer.
I was unpaid but was willing to learn and it saved moping around at home. Most evening i would get home go through the yellow pages calling up companies for industry’s I thought I may be interested in but know joy. I ended up writing 20 or so letters to locksmiths companies, one replied fortunately it was Gloucester locksmiths a company that had been around since the 1970’s and they were also members of the Master Locksmiths Association. They asked me in for a trail day.
I got the job!
After learning the craft of locksmithing for 3 years i decided that self-employment was my main aim that year in 2006 i left Gloucester locksmiths and went to the prince’s trust for help. They gave me the money and a mentor who was invaluable with great advice and ideas to get me on track.Since 2006 my business has gone from strength to strength managing contracts for letting agents, estate agents, housing associations, Schools and care homes.
I can honestly say i love my job and the people it allows me to meet.If you would like any advice on locksmithing or starting your own business please feel free to contact me I would be happy to help.
