A Short Overview of a 5 Lever Mortice Lock BS3621

A 5 lever mortice lock is a locking device that is fitted into a door frame. The lock has five levers that are each mounted on a separate plate. The plates are held together by screws and the whole mechanism is covered by a escutcheon plate. The main purpose of the 5 lever mortice lock is to provide extra security for your home or business.

How it Works

The 5 lever mortice lock works by having a key that can move all the levers up or down. When the key is inserted into the lock, the teeth of the key push against the flat sides of the levers. This causes the pins inside the levers to move up or down. Depending on how the pins are positioned, the locking bolt will either be able to slide into the keep or not.

If you turn the key and none of the levers move, this means that the wrong key has been used. If one or more of the levers moves but does not allow the locking bolt to enter into the keep, this means that one or more of the pins are not properly positioned. In order for the lock to work correctly, all five levers need to be in the correct position.
